Let’s accept the fact that we all lie to our children. Most of the time, we deem it’s for a good purpose. We all want our children to feel positive, overcome challenges, and have faith to work through life’s struggles and pains. In this process, we often do not realize the harm that we are making. Senior faculty members of some of the best schools in Gurgaon explain few common lies that we often tend to tell our children that may affect their lifelong thinking process and create unnatural mindsets.

Let’s take a deeper look at the points that affect their thinking:

  1. You can do anything in life.

This is the biggest and the most harmful lie that we often make says a Principal of one of the top senior secondary schools in Gurgaon. There are things that you are not good at and simply not wired for. Every child has some kind of innate quality and hidden talent. It is useful to nurture their hidden talents instead of encouraging them to perform stuff that they simply can’t succeed at. We are responsible for making sure that they do not fail and when to take things easy.

  1. Ignore others

“Don’t think too much. It hardly matters what anyone else thinks”-this is a common statement that we often tell our children. These are the things which we want to believe in, however, we hardly do. We do not go by that value. By saying such a thing we try to give our children a sense of security and faith; which we ourselves have never developed says a senior faculty member of one of the popular senior secondary school in Gurugram. In fact, what people think matters a lot to us? However, the fact is, it doesn’t change our kids’ value or worth. It hurts when someone gives a nasty comment or tries to humiliate.

3. Results don’t count, efforts do.

So, when we say results don’t matter we are contradicting ourselves. Results matter a lot in life. Their report card says the same thing, explains a senior faculty in one of the best school in Gurgaon. Results are something that is needed for admission in high schools and for life. And we are preparing them for life, aren’t we? However, we must remember to teach them that success is not a static standard. It varies from child to child and scenario to scenario. We need to make sure that they understand that effort do show and absolutely counts and it leads to better results. Don’t overlook the efforts that have gone into making that B (-ve) grade. Don’t devalue non-academic qualities and talents often, suggested senior faculty in one of the best schools in Gurgaon.

4. Thinking good is good enough.

It is the positive thoughts only that count. Not really! We need to inform them that expressing in deeds and in words is most important. They need to be present, be caring, kind, affectionate and helpful. Only thinking well will not do any good. We need to do well and make the effort to make things better for others if we think that way. Turning thoughts to making something visible and tangible is needed says tenured faculty of one of the best senior secondary school in Gurgaon.

We simply cannot make them close their eyes and have a blind faith. We need to create rational human beings out of them, who know and can accept the truth and work toward making things better.

All the best!
